What are the benefits of looksmaxxing?
In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a social media trend where people who aren't conventionally attractive are following specific protocols to drastically improve their looks.
Some transformations are extraordinary. In some cases, they’ve gone from a below-average 4 to a solid 8 out of 10 in as little as a month. (Whether these results are genuine or enhanced by camera tricks is another matter…)
You might think looks don’t matter; after all, we’ve been told time and again that character and what’s in a person’s heart are what truly count. And while that’s true to an extent, reality persists in telling a different tale: exceptionally attractive people lead easier lives.
Those with good bone structure get the pick of partners, are offered better jobs, can command higher pay, can get away more easily with bad behaviour, are more likely to be given the benefit of the doubt, and are treated more favourably by the general public.
Why are good-looking people treated better?
Good-looking people are treated better because they tend to be perceived as healthier and more trustworthy making them more desirable to potential partners, friends, and employers.
Good facial bone structure—always on display—signals internal health. Clear and vibrant skin, symmetrical features, high cheekbones, a wide and defined jaw… all tell the story - whether the onlooker is consciously aware of it or not - that the person behind that beautiful face is properly nourished.
Why does nourishment matter?
Nourishment determines how we operate physically and mentally. An undernourished person is more prone to illness and mental health challenges, which range from anxiety and depression to conditions like ADHD, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and schizophrenia. Such vulnerabilities can make them more of a liability than an asset as a spouse, friend, business partner, or employee.
Proper nourishment also impacts future generations. Undernourished individuals may struggle to conceive, and their offspring are more likely to face health disadvantages.
Are looks just luck?
While genetics certainly play a role, they’re far from the full picture. As the saying goes, genetics load the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger. A child’s diet can override much of what they inherit from their parents.
Must you start in childhood?
While it's never too late to focus on nourishment because the benefits are invaluable at any age, it's also true that the damage done by poor diet in childhood and adolescence sets the stage for a person's future, and much of it is irreversible.
The thinking that it's fine to load children with cereal, sandwiches, sweets, chips, crisps, dilute or fizzy pop, and other nutrient-suppressing junk foods - even if also feeding them an otherwise nutrient-dense diet - because it's "normal" is erroneous. Comments like, "I had loads of sweets and pop as a kid and it never did me any harm," isn't exactly true unless you are the epitome of excellent health, look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie and have your pick of the opposite sex, are the top of your game at work and in your social life, and earn an absolute packet.
Feeding children junk foods...
... giving in to candy floss at the fairground, a bowl of cereal because it's quick, a crunchy packet of potato or maize snacks to keep them quiet while you're busy, a sugary hot chocolate or fizzy pop while out and about, ordering them the “children’s menu” of chicken nuggets, chips and beans followed by an ice cream sundae at the pub beer garden...
... might seem like easy options in the moment, but it's crucial to stay strong and remember that these choices impact not only their immediate health and behaviours but their entire future: physical wellbeing, mental stability, love life, career success, and even their ability to have children.
How does junk food impact child development?
Aside from frequent illnesses due to compromised immunity, and behavioural difficulties such as hyperactivity and mood swings, the most noticeable physical features of poor nutrition are facial structure and dental health.
A healthy jaw and palate are wide and well-formed, allowing all teeth to fit naturally without crowding. Crooked or crowded teeth that require extractions or braces indicate a poorly developed palate caused by dietary deficiencies.
Mouth-breathing is another sign of undernourishment, as it often results from a narrow palate that makes proper tongue positioning difficult. This can lead to breathing issues like sleep apnoea, which cascade into further life-long health problems.
What should a child eat?
The optimal diet for a baby is breast milk—there’s nothing more nourishing. Breastfeeding also encourages proper tongue and jaw movement, which aids in palate formation.
As children grow, their diet should focus on fatty meat, eggs, and raw dairy. There’s no need to force-feed vegetables or include starchy carbohydrates or sugars. Babies are born in ketosis, and for optimal health, they should remain in that state throughout life.
What should a looksmaxxing adult eat?
To achieve a more chiseled look and improve skin texture and elasticity, the ideal diet is carnivore—a strict version of keto. The BBBE diet (beef, bacon, butter, and eggs) is particularly effective.
However, transitioning to carnivore can be challenging for those accustomed to a standard Western diet. A gradual approach often works best: start by eliminating carbohydrates and seed oils, and adopt a whole-food ketogenic diet. Over time, increase your intake of meat and animal fats. As your body becomes nourished, cravings for non-carnivore foods will diminish.
While it may be too late to undo all the effects of a poor childhood diet, there’s still much that can be done to improve health—and appearance—in adulthood.
If you’re attempting the looksmaxxing challenge or simply curious about the keto diet, you can join the free Facebook community Keto Beginners UK. This small, private group teaches the very basics of keto, making it easy to get started.
Remember: your external appearance reflects your internal health. Fix the inside, and the outside will follow.
